NRP Wooden Tricone Prototype - Video Link

Hey there,

Finally got around to making a little intro/song video of this amazing guitar. I believe I am the 3rd owner of it, built in 2002 by NRP's custom wizard Eric Smith. She's a beauty and sounds incredible. I'm eager to try out one of the new production models to compare, but in the meantime, check her out:

thanks for the background...very glad to hear about the various stages she's gone through before i was able to get her!

you are spot-on with your description of the connection one feels to this guitar when playing it - its much different (more intense) than any acoustic i've ever owned as well.

next video i'll make sure to mention the new lineage...

    all best,

  • hi, i used to own your guitar,,,,,,,i was  number  2  ,,,,,eric  built it for himself,,,,,,he had a baby  and sold it,,,,to  a guy in the carolinas,,i bouight it from him  and sold it to eric e.  ,,so you are 5 not counting lennie,,,,,,,,,,yours is not a prototype  mister,,,,,,yours  is a one of a kind masterfulsuperful reso,i wish i never sold it,,,,everyone who had it wants it back. I had an offer from a julliard graduate. he was not a reso player but knew this guitar was special,,,,,,it is very very different from the new wood model,,,,,,,it is heavier and sounds richer from the primo woods used,,,,,,i was too nervous to even play it,,so i sold it,,,,,,,,,i am used to my rusted duolians, I have never seen any guitar like yours, it almost  can play itself....the sound is more balanced and when the professional musician played it,,,,,,wow,,,,he played swing jazz, and it  sounded  and felt like honey in the air. That guitar also felt tight like a seat in a jet fighter, when you play it  you feel connected  to it much different than steel.......enjoy it   dr. keats

  • Yes, I remember now.  07 seems like about 15 years ago right about now!  What are you making the vid with?  If Imovie on a Mac, after you finish it you can resize it.  I'd guess you could do the same w Shake or whatever other movie software.  I like the sound of your wood tri.  I find w the new one I play the treble strings harder to pull more volume out of em.  Be interesting to hear yours side by side w the new model.  Thanks, and let me know if you need any help in downsizing this or any other video.  It's an easy adjust.  Best, Len

  • Len,

This vid was 4 times the Parlor's limit for uploads! I gotta do something shorter to get under that 100 mb. And, we actually met a long while back in your office in Santa Barbara (2007) when i dropped off the Collegian...Anyhoo, I'll try and put some comparison vids together so people can see the different NRPs I've got.

    All best,

  • Hi, thanks for sharing that. I finally get to see what you look like after all these years of yacking back and forth.  Try and post some video direct to the Parlor here when you can, more will see and hear it.  Thanks much, and hope all's well.
